Contest & Giveaway: Boyfriend From Hell

I need your help in choosing the cover for my new novel, Boyfriend From Hell. To entice you into helping me, I am giving away some awesome swag. The contest is easy. All you need to do to qualify is look at the three covers below and tell me in the comments section which of the three covers you like best. Easy Peasy:
Cover #1

Cover #2

Cover #3

Here's an idea of what the book is about:

Have you ever had a boyfriend from hell?

You know the kind: guy who messes with your life so much he turns it into Swiss cheese. Or maybe he was the guy who followed you home like a lost puppy, then turned into the pit bull you couldn't get rid of, no matter how hard you tried. Or maybe he was abusive.

I'm sure we've all had a bad boyfriend or two (or girlfriend in my case). My new novel, Boyfriend From Hell, is about a boyfriend from hell--literally. It's a YA paranormal like Never Slow Dance With A Zombie, but I've cut back on the comedy a bit in this one. It's the story of Megan Barnett, the fifteen year-old daughter of a 39 year-old single mom, Suze. When Suze decides it's time she had a man in her life, Megan is not happy. With good reason:

"First off, if anyone in my family should be dating, it should be me. I'm primo dating age here. How's it going to look if my mother has a boyfriend and I don't?" So Megan and Suze both set out to meet boyfriends. That's when all hell breaks loose.

Prizes: ARCs (when they are available in April) or a tee shirt. 2 prizes in all.

Open to all.

Offer ends: March 4, 2011

TO DO:

Of the three book covers above, which do you like best?

Tell me the answer and leave your email address in comments. On March 5th I will hold a random drawing of all who left comments. There will be two winners who will receive their choice of an ARC or an I Survived A Boyfriend From Hell tee shirt. I will email the winners and post the winning cover design on the blog. (photo of the tee coming soon)

Thanks for your help.

  4. I like cover 2 the best. I tend to overlook books with cartoon covers when I am searching for a new one.

  6. Hey E,

I'm generally not a fan of people/photos on covers of books. It always makes me think of Harlequin romance novels or "based on the major motion picture" books. I think #1 is clever and catchy, and it's a great incorporation of the title font. :)

Good luck picking one. They'll all be great!

    Oh yeah:

  7. Hello!

My choice is number 1. If the bit has some comedy to it, I think cover 1 is a bit light-hearted compared to the other two.

    Thanks,

  13. I like cover #1.
It has a modern look with the different similes, and shows out of all the guys Megan could have picked from she chooses hell-boy. (Who couldn't relate?)
Plus, I like the 'e' is a pitchfork.

  14. Hi E. I am all for number 1.
    Book #1
Makes me think that the book will be a good lighthearted take on boyfriend type relationships. I chuckled at the cover because I even recognized a couple of my old boyfriends in the different cartoon expressed faces.

    Book #2
This cover did strike me because of the beautiful, yet piercing darkness of his eyes. It made me think of the boyfriend as "evil", and the book as a possible heavy read for a teen. (If indeed he is evil in the book, then message well taken);-)

    Book#3
Nice looking couple, but I saw it, and immediately got the impression that the couple in this book is having relations. Being that I am a mother to a teenager, I would not buy the book soley based on the cover, fearing that it may be too much for my young/mid teen.

Bottom line for me: All 3 covers can work, depending on your target audience. I love #1 best, because there are no real people on the cover, so 'anyone' can pick up the book and identify with just the title, and cartoon facial expressions alone. Then WE get to picture our own crummy ex boyfriends from hell, in those faces, lol. Good Luck! Lynette J. (Lyn870@gmail.com)

  17. Cover 1 is definitely the best. It'll stand out much more on a shelf and us easier to remember.

  18. I like Cover 2 alot and I think it would be cool to have a little pitchfork for the pupil of his eye. Maybe a red one. :)

  20. I definitely like cover choice #1. I like the notion of teen doodles and they are humorous and contemporary as well. I am not a fan of the usage of random photos of gorgeous people on book covers. It's done a lot and the titles don't individually pop.

    ReplyDelete
  21. #1 would make me want to take a look at it if I were browsing through a bookstore. The others I would ignore.

    ReplyDelete
  22. The first cover is definitely my choice - it's different enough to stick out from the crowd.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Wow. I feel a little weird here, but I'm going to say #3.

    ArcadiaWearsPrada[at]yahoo[dot]com

  24. I prefer #1. Of the three covers #1 is the most interesting.

Covers 2 and 3 don't really shout "boyfriend from hell."

But if the target audience is more ya prn/urban fantasy versus just ya the covers generally tend to have faces/people versus drawings.

Congrats on your upcoming new release!

  43. Definitely the first one, its eye catching, the use of colour, red and white really stands out and also to let the readers know that the book got a sense of humor and not a really serious book

  47. Oh dear, I don't like any of them! The first one looks childish, the second one looks unprofessional and the in the third you can barely see the people. If I saw any of these covers I would pick it up off a shelf. If it was edited a bit, I'd say the second one! :/

    ReplyDelete
  48. I'm not a fan of either :/ im sorry! If I had to pick one I would say the 1st, but if I was going on cover alone, I would probably skip over them!

  55. Hi, stopping by from Eleni @ La Femme Readers blog. :)

I think for a YA book, #1 is the best cover for your book. It's cute and doesn't make it look too serious like the other two would. I like the other two book covers, but I think #1 would be great for YA.

I'm going to add Boyfriend from Hell to my Goodreads. It sounds really good. :)
